Sculpture Portrait of Josef Režný

On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Strakonice-based bagpiper Josef Režný (1924-2013) on the first day of the 21st Annual International Bagpiping festival on 21 August 2014, this slightly above-life-size sculpture was ceremonially revealed at the park behind the Castle of Strakonice. A linden tree was also symbolically planted here to honour his memory. J. Režný was known as a perpetrator of bagpiping and folk traditions, collector of folk songs, ethno-musicologist and a founder of the International Bagpipe Festival. The sculpture portrait of his head, a part of his chest and arms, including a set of bagpipes, is placed on a granite socle. The author of the work is the Prague-based sculptor Zdeněk Josef Preclík. In June of the following year, a plaque was added to the portrait with text in three language versions representing Mr. Režný.
